Frequently asked questions
AZILAL Azilal rugs from Morocco are hand-knotted Berber carpets from the High Atlas Mountains, known for their bright colors and playful, almost abstract patterns. The are most of the time less densely knotted, as weaving lines are often incorporated between the rows of knots. Azilal rugs are made from wool, sometimes blended with colored cotton, giving them a vibrant texture and unique appearance. BOUJAAD A Boujaad rug is a hand-knotted Berber piece from the Atlas Mountains, known for its warm pink and orange tones and organic patterns. The colors are often softened by traditional washing, giving the rug its characteristic, gently faded look. Boujaad rugs are usually low-pile and made from soft wool, making each one a unique and authentic example of Moroccan craftsmanship. BENI OUARAIN Beni Ouarain rugs from Morocco are traditional hand-knotted Berber carpets made by the Beni Ouarain tribe from the eastern Middle Atlas. They are crafted from thick, soft wool and usually cream-colored with black or dark geometric patterns, although modern versions also include colors. The original traditional knotting technique is hardly used anymore, because it is almost unaffordable today. With their simple, elegant designs and cozy, warm texture, Beni Ouarain rugs are beloved worldwide as both decorative and functional interior pieces. BOUCHEROUITE Boucherouite rugs from Morocco are handmade Berber carpets, made on the loom ,from recycled fabrics, such as old clothes and leftover materials. They are notable for their colorful, eclectic patterns and playful, free-form designs. They are unique Moroccan rugs and are often used in traditional Berber homes, called taddarts, which are built from earth. These rugs reflect the creativity and inventiveness of Moroccan craftswomen. Boucherouite comes from the Amazigh word ichrouidn, which means: pieces of cloths. Bouifilaine comes from ifilan: means pieces of thread.
Vacuum the carpet regularly, preferably from both sides. Remove stains with mild soap such as Woolite or Marseille soap and warm water, dabbing gently with a clean, soft cloth—do not rub. Sodium carbonate can also be used. Dry cleaning is also an option. Air dry thoroughly, shake outside, and hang in the sun.
Each rug is unique. The rug you see on the website will be the same as the one you can see in the store. However, the color may vary slightly from screen to screen. We always try to present every detail and any imperfections as accurately as possible. Since handmade products are never perfect, there may always be small flaws or slight differences in dimensions. These unique characteristics are part of what give each piece its own artistic individuality.
Moths in carpets can be persistent and annoying, but with the right approach, you can prevent them effectively. It is usually the larvae of clothes moths that cause the damage, as they feed on natural fibers such as wool. Below is a clear explanation of how to avoid moths in carpets. WHAT CAUSES MOTHS IN RUGS? Moths are attracted to dark, undisturbed areas where there is little movement. Carpets made of wool or other animal fibers are an ideal food source for them, especially if they also contain dust, hair, or food residues. TIPS TO PREVENT MOTHS 1. Vacuum regularlyVacuum your carpet at least once a week, and don’t forget the edges and areas under furniture. This removes eggs and larvae before they can cause damage. 2. Keep your home cleanMoth larvae thrive on dirt, hair, and crumbs. Keeping your home clean makes it less attractive to them. 3. Ventilation and lightMoths dislike light and fresh air. Make sure your rooms are well ventilated and allow sunlight to reach your carpets regularly. 4. Use natural repellentsScents like lavender, cedar wood, or cloves can deter moths. For example, place lavender sachets near your carpet or use cedar wood blocks. These smells interfere with moth behavior and help keep them away. 5. Move carpets regularlyBy occasionally moving furniture and rotating your carpet, you prevent long-term dark and undisturbed spots from forming. 6. Check for early signs of damageLook for small bald patches or thinning areas in the carpet. These can indicate moth activity. The earlier you detect it, the easier it is to address the problem. 7. Deep cleaningHave your carpet professionally cleaned from time to time or use a steam cleaner. High temperatures kill moths and their eggs. WHAT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE MOTHS? If you notice moths are already present, act quickly. Clean the carpet thoroughly, vacuum daily, and consider using a specific moth treatment. WHICH PRODUCT CAN YOU USE? There are several effective products available to treat or prevent moths in carpets: Chemical sprays:Products like Acana Moth Killer Carpet & Fabric Spray or Tapi Contramott Spray kill moths, eggs, and larvae quickly and can protect carpets for a longer period. Many sprays act within minutes and are designed specifically for fabrics. Natural sprays:Options such as Colton’s Naturals Cedar & Lavender Spray use plant-based ingredients like cedar and lavender. These are safer and mainly work as repellents rather than killers. Cedar-based repellents:Products like Reefer-Galler Cedar Scented Spray use cedar oil, which disrupts moths and helps prevent infestations. Lavender-based repellents:Sprays such as Orphea Lavender Moth Repellent Spray protect and refresh fabrics while discouraging moths from settling. In general, chemical products are best for active infestations, while natural products are ideal for prevention and maintenance. CONCLUSIONBy cleaning regularly, ensuring good ventilation, and using natural or chemical repellents when needed, you can effectively prevent moths in carpets. Prevention is the key to avoiding damage and inconvenience.
We sell only hand-knotted or hand-woven carpets. Each carpet has its own uniqueness, including those that are custom-made based on an existing design. The rugs on the website that can potentially be custom made can be found under Rugs/ Size/ Custom Made. There will always be slight variations in color due to different dye baths, and differences in pattern due to the weaver’s visual interpretation. These subtle variations are a natural result of the handmade process and contribute to the individuality and authenticity of each piece. Before placing an order, you are welcome to visit our showroom or contact us via email or WhatsApp. We will then discuss the conditions and the expected delivery time. The price will be in line with the existing carpet.
We sell both new and vintage carpets. It is always clearly indicated in the product details whether a carpet is new or vintage. We try to represent the condition of each carpet as accurately as possible so you know exactly what to expect.Vintage carpets reflect their age and history, and therefore may show signs of wear or previous repairs. These characteristics are part of their authenticity and give each piece its own unique story and appearance.
You can view the carpets in the shop/ showroom in Mortsel.
